Tanzania

Since coffee was first introduced to Tanzania in the 16th century, it has played a pivotal role in Tanzania’s culture and economy.

Of the 3 million Tanzanians employed in the coffee sector, approximately 15% are smallholder farmers from the Kilimanjaro, Arusha, and Mbeya regions, who produce almost all of Tanzania’s coffee.

Tanzania’s harvest season usually lasts from July to December and is sold via the auction or direct sale. The coffee is then shipped from either the Dar es Salaam or Tanga Ports, making the largest distances involved a challenge for the supply chain.
